Increasing demand of Hybrid Cars

In a scenario where fuel costs gold and appeals for environmental preservation become increasingly urgent, the hybrid car appears as a possibility in the subject urban mobility. But is it advantageous? How much? How is the Brazilian market? For starters, it is important to understand how a hybrid car works. Unlike the other models, the hybrid car comes equipped with two engines: a combustion engine that uses common fuel and another electric. The latter uses the kinetic energy generated by burning the fuel, promoting a much lower expense and also generating much less pollution. Even like all of this technology, hybrid cars are still far from becoming a viable and popular option, since the values of the models available today in Brazil exceed R $ 100 thousand. The Toyota Prius was the first hybrid car produced in series in 1997 and was the best selling in its segment.

Types of Hybrid Cars

There are currently three types of hybrid cars available

Hybrid-Parallel

In older models, the locomotion happens by the engine to the explosion. The electric motor was only an aid to improve performance. The Honda Insight is an example, just like most small cars.

Hybrid Series

In some models, the electric motor is responsible for the locomotion of the automobile, but the exploding motor operates a power generator that recharges its batteries necessary for the car to move around and to charge the batteries.

Hybrid Mixed

The latter type unites characteristics of the system in series with the parallel system, increasing the performance of both. This system provides power to the wheels of the vehicle while generating electricity using a generator. In this case, it is possible to use only the electrical system.

Which hybrid cars are available in Brazil?

The Mercedes-Benz S400 was the model that broke the green and yellow market, and was launched in 2010 with the value of R $ 426 thousand. Soon after, the Ford Fusion won a Brazilian version and came to be presented at the Seo Paulo Motor Show in the same year, opening its sales season. More modest, the Ford Fusion arrived with a much more attractive price: R $ 134 thousand. The Fusion Hybrid was the first complete hybrid model. That is, its electric motor has autonomy to run alone (without the aid of the combustion engine). In addition, Toyota has been showing interest in the hybrid market. In Brazil, two models are already available for purchase: the Lexus CT200h (R $ 130,000) and the Prius (R $ 124,000), the cheapest model in its class. Currently, Brazil has been testing hybrid technology in public transportation. Unlike the trolleybuses (remember them?), Which needed cabling to run, the hybrid collectives will have full mobility to travel anywhere. PSA Group intends to present 15 “electrified” vehicles in just two years; goal is to reach 100% of the line by 2025 All new models launched by PSA brands (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall and Opel) from 2019 will have hybrid or electric versions. It is worth mentioning that the models currently produced will not be discontinued immediately. Despite this, there is a movement within the French group that follows ads from other automakers that will gradually abolish the combustion engine in the coming years, such as Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover. Within just two years, PSA plans to launch 15 “electrified” vehicles, including hybrid-powered, plug-in hybrid and electric cars. From this list, news such as the DS7 Crossback E-Tense and versions of existing models including Peugeot 3008 , Peugeot 508/508 SW, Citroën C5 Aircross, Vauxhall Grandland X and Opel Grandland X are already confirmed. The remaining seven models will be 100% electric, including the newly revealed DS3 Crossback E-Tense – the first representative of this new phase of the PSA group, already represented in concept cars.

It is worth remembering that the French government intends to ban the circulation of combustion vehicles by 2040. In Paris, the veto can happen a decade earlier, in 2030. Pocket Thank You The vehicles will be manufactured under two different platforms: CMP (of Common Modular Platform, translated into Portuguese) and EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform). According to the PSA, these bases can take advantage of “any train-of-force of their current line of combustion vehicles, as well as internal combustion engines, electric, and hybrids.” Platform sharing also means cost savings, since all of these vehicles can be manufactured on the same assembly line. While the CMP base is targeted and buy gmc indoor car covers for your Hybrid Cars safety.

Models are becoming more attractive and closer to the Brazilian market.

In general, they feature many state-of-the-art technologies Hybrid vehicles are far from popular. They crawl in the Brazilian market, as happened decades ago with flex cars. The first step in this category may be transport services, since they represent savings for those who run a lot. It may take a bit longer for hybrid cars to emerge, but certainly this mix of combustion and electric engines seems to be the best formula at the beginning of the transition of the automotive sector. Worldwide, sales reached only 1% of vehicles marketed in 2017. Even so, a significant number of hybrid cars are being launched on the international market. Outside Brazil, mainly, they become a more accessible and desired alternative. Of course, these cars have high technology. It is important to note that the so-called hybrid-electric vehicle is identified by the acronym HEV. It combines an internal combustion engine system with an electric propulsion system. Obviously, the goal is to achieve better fuel economy, but automakers also try to combine performance improvement. There is a wide range of HEVs. One of the most popular was known in Formula 1 as Kers and today is also widespread in hybrid vehicles. It is a system where regenerative brakes convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle into constant electric charge to the battery. Or the vehicle’s own combustion gine is used to generate electricity, recharge and power the electric motor directly. The idea is to avoid wasting energy and increase power.

In plug-in hybrid cars, the battery is charged by a

In the hybrid plug-in automobile, the battery used to power the electric motor can be charged directly through a plug, but it has the same characteristics as a conventional hybrid, having an electric motor and a combustion. Only 100% electric cars do not emit pollutants, since they eliminate the fossil fuel. But hybrids still emit far fewer toxic gases than traditional cars. New models recently launched in Europe and the United States could be successful in Brazil. But of course, the key question is whether to offset a larger investment in a hybrid vehicle, undoubtedly more expensive with this technology, without tax incentives.

“Green Cars”

No brand is more associated with “green motoring” like Toyota. Prius, already present in the Brazilian market, is the best-selling hybrid car in the world. The 2018 model has made significant progress. It was even more efficient in terms of fuel economy compared to its predecessor, with the more spacious interior and better finish. It even has a hybrid plug-in version. The Japanese brand will still have a cheaper option that is the Yaris Hybrid, combining the agility of the compact car with the hybrid efficiency. This model can reach the Brazilian market and has a good standard of equipment and a spacious and practical interior.

Hyundai Ioniq

Among the lowest-cost vehicles, the Hyundai Ioniq is a very interesting hybrid choice. The Ioniq is considered a practical, intelligent vehicle and has Prius as its main competitor. Mitsubishi is another Japanese brand that is having success with Outlander PHEV. It is a hybrid crossover plug-in that loses seat rows compared to the regular version, but provides great fuel economy in everyday use. Among the European brands, Volkswagen has Golf GTE, considered almost as fast as its brother GTI. It has an excellent rating on CO2 emissions and a technology that allows driving up to 50 kilometers without using the gasoline engine.

Volkswagen Passat GTE

Volkswagen offers Passat GTE with one of the best hybrid technologies on the market. In the VW line, the Passat GTE is classified as one of the best hybrids on the world market. Its autonomy is about 800 kilometers with a single tank of gasoline, combined the use of the two engines. It has an excellent quality of interior finish and capacity for five adults comfortably and still a good capacity of load, even with the battery installed. Audi A3 E-Tron. From the Volkswagen Group, the Audi A3 E-tron is a familiar hatchback car. This plug-in hybrid version of E-tron has technology and performance similar to Golf GTE. But the A3 E-Tron has a more stylish, luxurious and comfortable interior.

The Q7 E-Tron SUV uses an electric motor combined with a diesel propeller

In the line of Audi SUVs, the Q7 E-tron is powered by a diesel engine coupled to an electric motor integrated in the gearbox. The result is a 34 km range, with the electric motor and an excellent average fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions rates. The Q7 E-tron is very refined in its interior, quiet in the city with the electric motor and with very low levels of noise and vibration when driven by diesel. Like SUVs in its class, it loses the third row of seats to install the battery. BMW I8 offers the sporty i8, a high-performance hybrid car with state-of-the-art technology. In premium brands, the BMW i8 is a high-performance hybrid sports car that uses state-of-the-art technology to deliver optimal performance and low emissions. It is even considered an efficient alternative to sports models such as the Porsche 911 and the Audi R8.

BMW I3

The BMW i3 is constructed of carbon fiber and aluminum alloy to compensate the weight of the battery. The i3 is another option of the BMW line. Like the i8, it’s built in super-light carbon fiber and aluminum alloys to compensate for the weight of its batteries, materials that help in economy and model performance.

The Father of All Lohner-Porsche 1901

Lohner-Porshe could be called a precursor to the idea of combining an electric motor with another one with gasoline, When talking about alternative propulsion vehicles it is interesting to note that Ferdinand Porshe, creator of the legendary brand, developed a hybrid vehicle in 1901. The Lohner-Porshe was a hybrid of series using electric motors mounted on the cube of the wheel, powered by batteries and a gasoline generator. Although Ferdinand Porsche came up with this idea, about a century ago it was necessary for hybrid technology to be a reality. In Brazil this trend has not yet come to fruition. There are few offers that depend, of course, on government incentives to improve their competitiveness. But it is always good to remember that Brazil is one of the signatory countries of the Kyoto Protocol, which has an ecological agenda that provides for the gradual replacement of vehicles for combustion by hybrid and electric cars
